Pre-emptive compliance is the #1 way to cede power to fascism. The Common Council needs to act. Pass an ordinance, and if the fascists object? Take it to court. Fight back, you cowards.

This program has been going on for a year now, and the results are as positive as one would expect… We need to banish the idea of “deserving poor” from our vocabulary. No one has to ‘earn’ the right to a dignified life.

The Right can not allow a state to pass a policy like this, and to then become a success story. If policies from the left jump through all of the arbitrary hoops that our country has intentionally constructed to uphold business interests, and then go on to be popular, all of the sudden the people in Wyoming might also want them.

The Republicans clearly should get whooped next fall. Unfortunately, at the same time they spectacularly and desperately fall apart, Democrats are quietly fizzling. Nationally, they  somehow have even lower approval ratings. The Democratic establishment might be the only people unpopular and inept enough to blow this chance.

To Sara Rodriguez, what will you do differently than our current Governor? Using obstruction as an excuse for not accomplishing more progressive wins won’t cut it. This question needs to be asked of every single candidate in the race for governor, and if Democratic messaging tries to tell us that things are going great in Wisconsin already, they need to be laughed at.

The only thing Tony Evers seems to care about is his brand as a folksy bipartisan compromiser, but under his aw shucks facade, this governor is making morally depraved choices with dire consequences in people’s lives.

Kroger has not even stated that shoplifting is the primary purpose for the closure of this store. They have gone as far as to deny it in some places. This idea was just something that the community came to, possibly because we are so primed to allow corporations to blame the consumer rather than accept culpability. Our society constantly frames social issues around crime, and its relationship to policing in our communities.

The benefits of a city or state owned grocery store are that they are not for profit, and could be priced based on cost, and operating expenses, which would pass on savings to the consumer. This system has the staggering ability to combat price gouging at privately owned grocery stores that some have dubbed “greedflation.”

Some will argue it could have been worse, that the Democratic senators who voted yes only did so after getting something from their Republican colleagues. But it also could have been so much better, and 11 Democratic senators voted no because they knew that was the case, and recognized that their constituents deserved better.
