Press Release: Amy Donahue Releases Video of Opponent Denying Genocide

Amy Donahue’s campaign for Congress in District 4 (Milwaukee) has been gaining momentum, with increased donations and events allowing them to distribute yard signs, buy radio ads, and grow visibility around her campaign and its priorities. Donahue’s platform covers issues affecting the people of WI-04, with an emphasis on supporting Medicare for All and Block the Bombs (a bill restricting arm sales to Israel). Today, Donahue released a video of their opponent (https://youtube.com/shorts/VZUfYNl0dbU) that they took in March, along with the following statement:
“I hold a deep respect for Representative Gwen Moore. I wanted my campaign to be grounded on what I offer the people of Congressional District 4 after listening to and learning from them for the last 15 years. As the election day draws closer, I feel it’s necessary for voters to also see where the incumbent stands.
To demand universal healthcare for the people of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the whole U.S. is to recognize healthcare as a human right. As a healthcare worker, I uphold the concepts of ‘do no harm’, that everyone should have the freedom to choose their providers and make informed choices about their own health, and that healthcare must be distributed equitably.
In order to uphold those ethical principles, I also name and call for an end to genocide everywhere and specifically in Palestine. The use of our tax dollars to provide weapons to a foreign government destroying hospitals and murdering healthcare workers makes us all complicit in war crimes. Both morally and materially, there is no Medicare for All without Block the Bombs.
At the Congressional District 4 convention in March, Gwen Moore said there is no genocide in Gaza while arguing against a party resolution supporting Block the Bombs.
She also watered down language in another resolution opposing the terror of immigration enforcement, and local coordination with ICE, known as 287(g). Moore successfully replaced the resolution’s commitment for Democrats to prohibit 287(g) with a commitment to merely ‘decry’ it. I came to the Palestinian solidarity movement from my organizing roots in anti-racism and abolition, as a parent and healthcare worker. ICE deploys a combination of racial targeting and terrorism against every non-white person in the U.S. regardless of citizenship status. Police and sheriffs, especially in the Milwaukee area, have a long history of racially targeting Black people and communities for surveillance, harassment, arrest, and incarceration in inhumane prison conditions. These practices are domestic echoes and historical precedents for the ethnic cleansing that the U.S. Government funds against Palestinians, with Representative Moore’s implicit approval.
The people of Milwaukee deserve more than ‘nay’ votes against Trump’s agenda. In Congress, I will fight genocide, win healthcare for all, fight for true public safety rather than endless violent and racist policing, and not merely decry ICE, but abolish it.

The campaign committee for Amy Donahue has been funded by individual contributions and in-kind donations, and the campaign is run by volunteers.
